Plan Your Visit →Emmanuel Lutheran Church is a faithful, independent Lutheran congregation dedicated to meaningful worship, dynamic youth ministry, and biblical teaching. We have served our Lord and the South Side community since 1898.
Our Faith
We worship one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). This one true God is confessed in the Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds.
We hold that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the only rule and norm for evaluating all doctrine and practice (2 Timothy 3:15-17). The Bible is God's authoritative Word for faith and life.
We use Martin Luther's Small Catechism as a faithful summary of Holy Scripture and the Christian life. It teaches the six chief parts of the faith to prepare people for membership and Communion at Emmanuel.
We confess God's holy Law as summarized in the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:3-17). The Law reveals God's will, shows us our sin, and guides the lives of those who love Him and keep His commandments.
We confess the faith of the whole Christian Church in the Apostles' Creed: belief in God the Father, in Jesus Christ who was crucified and rose again, and in the Holy Spirit, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
Following Christ's own teaching, we pray as He taught in the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13), trusting our heavenly Father for daily bread, forgiveness, and deliverance from evil.
