Contact UsThe Church of St. John the Evangelist is an Anglican Church in the Diocese of Montreal, committed to serving God in 'the beauty of holiness' through ritual, word, and music. The church is characterized by a strong sense of Catholic tradition and is open to all.
Our Faith
St. John's upholds the fullness of the Catholic faith and worship within the Anglican Communion, as set out by its founder Father Edmund Wood. The parish holds to an orthodox and faithful theological and doctrinal outlook rooted in the historic creeds and apostolic tradition.
The parish exists to bring the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ, into the heart of the city. It proclaims the Gospel in the Anglo-Catholic tradition at the urban core of Montreal.
Worship is offered to the Lord in the beauty of holiness through a liturgy faithful to the Western Rite. The parish keeps a full liturgical calendar, celebrating High Mass and the daily offices such as Matins.
As an Anglo-Catholic parish, St. John's centers its life on the Eucharist, celebrated as the Mass, as the chief means of grace. The sacraments are received as encounters with the living Christ.
The parish treasures a timeless tradition and a rich, varied devotional life, standing at the cutting edge of Tradition while serving as a resource for the wider Church. Sacred music and devotion enrich the spiritual life of the congregation.
