Plan Your Visit →Hinson Memorial Baptist Church is a historically Christian, evangelical Baptist church in Portland, Oregon that welcomes all people to encounter God's Word and God's people in a warm, welcoming community centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our Faith
We believe the Holy Bible, consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, was written by men divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit and has God as its author. It is truth without any mixture of error and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be judged.
We believe there is one and only one true and living God, the infinite Creator and supreme Ruler of heaven and earth, glorious in holiness and worthy of all honor, confidence, and love. In the unity of the Godhead there are three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—equal in every divine perfection and carrying out distinct but harmonious roles in the work of redemption.
At the heart of the Bible is the message of the Gospel, to which all of the Old Testament points and which all of the New Testament proclaims. It is God's declaration of how sinners may be saved from His judgment through His Son, Jesus Christ.
We believe that sinners are saved from God's righteous judgment only through faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is God's gracious gift, freely offered to all who repent and believe in the Lord Jesus.

We believe in the local church as a gathered body of baptized believers covenanting together for worship, discipleship, and mutual accountability. Members affirm a shared Statement of Faith, rooted in the New Hampshire Confession of Faith, in order to enjoy fellowship and grow together in unity around the essentials of the faith.
As a historically Baptist church, we believe baptism is for those who have professed faith in Christ, picturing union with Him in His death and resurrection. The Lord's Supper is observed by the church to remember Christ's sacrifice and proclaim His death until He comes.
