Bethel AME Church is an inner-city church in Wilmington, Delaware, whose vision is to fulfill God's plan through ministry. Their mission focuses on fostering the development of the congregation and neighborhood and enhancing the quality of life for all God's people.
Our Faith
Bethel AME affirms faith in one God eternally existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As a 'God Focused' congregation, it teaches that God is the sovereign Creator whose grace, favor, and mercy call His people to respond in worship and service.
As a 'Christ Centered' church, Bethel proclaims Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died and rose for the salvation of humankind. Salvation comes by grace through faith in Him, and discipleship to Christ is the center of the church's life and mission.
Bethel is a 'Spirit Led' congregation that believes the Holy Spirit is God present and active, guiding, comforting, and empowering believers for ministry. The Spirit equips the church to do God's work and to grow in holiness of heart and life.
In keeping with its Methodist heritage, Bethel AME holds the Bible to be the inspired Word of God and the sufficient rule for faith and practice. Scripture forms the foundation for worship, teaching, inspiration, and discipleship.
Bethel believes the greatest response to God's grace is to extend His beneficence to others, ministering to the whole person—spiritually, physically, and socially. Its ministries are designed to enhance the quality of life for all God's people in the congregation and surrounding community.
