Plan Your Visit →The Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul is an Anglican cathedral in downtown Charleston that cultivates Christ's likeness in community through worship, discipleship, and service to neighbors. Founded in 1809 as the Third Episcopal Church, it merged with St. Luke's in 1949 and became the Cathedral of the Diocese of South Carolina in 1963.
Our Faith
We are guided by the "three-legged stool" of Scripture, Tradition, and Reason. The Bible is primary; the Church's tradition and human reason illuminate its meaning for each generation.
We affirm the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed as faithful summaries of the Christian faith. They unite us with Christians across centuries and denominations.
We celebrate Baptism and the Eucharist as the two sacraments ordained by Christ. The Lord's Supper is the central act of Anglican worship — we are fed by Christ's body and blood.
Our worship is shaped by the Book of Common Prayer — a treasury of Scripture, prayer, and liturgy that forms us in the faith and unites Anglicans worldwide.
We stand as a "middle way" — holding together Catholic order, evangelical faith, and Reformed theology. We welcome all to the table of grace in a spirit of generous orthodoxy.
