Our Faith
What We Believe
Faith and Reason
We believe faith and reason are complementary gifts from God, never opposed to one another. Reason allows us to observe and understand creation, while faith opens us to truths that exceed human intellect alone; together they lead us toward God and the meaning of our lives.
Science and the Church
We affirm that the Catholic faith embraces 'both science and religion,' not one against the other. Scientific inquiry is a worthy means of improving human life and contemplating the truth of God's creation, but it must serve humanity rather than become an end in itself.
The Holy Eucharist
We believe that in the Eucharist the bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Christ. The Mass is the source and summit of our life as Catholics, where the faithful are united with Christ's sacrifice and nourished for their journey of faith.
The Seven Sacraments
We believe Christ instituted seven sacraments — Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Marriage — as effective signs of God's grace. Through them the faithful receive God's life at every stage of their earthly pilgrimage.

What to Expect as a Newcomer

Parking
The cathedral is located downtown at 646 Richards Street, Vancouver. Metered street parking and nearby paid parkades are the main options, so allow a few extra minutes to find a spot.

Children
Children are warmly welcomed at every Mass. Families are encouraged to attend together, and quieter spaces near the back are available if a little one becomes restless.

First Visit
First-time visitors are welcome to simply come and find a seat—no registration is needed. Arrive 10-15 minutes early, and don't worry about following every movement; just sit, stand, and kneel with the congregation as you feel comfortable.

The cathedral aims to welcome all worshippers. If you have specific accessibility needs, contact the Cathedral Office at (604) 682-6774 or office@vancouvercathedral.org ahead of your visit so the staff can assist you.

Coffee & Fellowship
Hospitality and fellowship are part of parish life, and visitors are encouraged to greet parishioners and clergy after Mass. Check the weekly bulletin for any scheduled coffee or social gatherings.
