First Baptist Church is a Baptist church located in South Waverly, Pennsylvania, committed to sharing the Gospel and nurturing believers through biblical preaching, worship, and service.
Our Faith
The Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God, written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the only infallible source of truth and the guide for Christian belief and living, and no other writings are inspired by God in the same way.
There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each person of the Trinity has every divine perfection equally. God created the world out of nothing and continues to sustain it by His power.
Jesus is the Son of God. He took on human nature, was born of a virgin, lived in perfect obedience to the Father, and died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people. He rose from the dead on the third day, ascended to the Father, and will return to reign as Lord of all the earth.
The Holy Spirit, co-equal with the Father and the Son, lives in everyone who has trusted Jesus for salvation. He reveals the truth of Scripture, forms Christ-like character in believers, and gives each believer gifts for building up the Church.
People are the crown of God's creation, made in His image. Humanity rebelled against God and was separated from Him, and everyone since needs God's saving grace to be restored.
No one can earn acceptance with God by being good. Salvation comes only by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, who forgives sin. Eternal life begins the moment a person turns from sin and receives Jesus by faith, and those who reject Him spend eternity apart from God in Hell.
The Church is a living spiritual body with Christ as its head, made up of all true believers. To honor Christ, the church works to encourage others and to stay united.
